Loki is a very chill, calm cat. Early on, he let me pet him, pick him up, wipe his eyes, brush his fur, touch his paws, and give him medication. He is a vocal cat, so he has only ever expressed his annoyance by meowing! Whenever I am in one place in the backyard or garage, he will lie down near me and lounge. He’s very affectionate and will brush up against anyone he first meets to ask for pets. He knows how to use a litter box, but I cannot speak to any other indoor behaviors. Since moving into my current home in South San Jose in 2024, Loki has been living outside in the neighborhood. He started hanging around my house because he was curious about my cat Oliver, whom I take outside on a leash. Over time, I learned he was extremely friendly, enjoyed pets, human company, and treats. Loki gets along with most of the neighborhood cats, and he loves just hanging out with me when I am gardening or working on projects in the garage. Eventually, he started living in my garage/backyard/deck, and after getting him some basic care, the vet confirmed he’s not a feral cat but was abandoned. He has no microchip, and no one has claimed him over the months I’ve cared for him. Even though I would love to bring him inside, I also have a dog who does not get along with Loki at all. Loki very much wants to live indoors in the company of humans who can give him love, safety, and the comfortable life he deserves. I have contacted multiple local shelters, and many have recommended doing a private rehoming for Loki. He can be in a home with other cats, but should not be in a home with dogs. I do not know what he is like with children; however, he is very tolerate with being touched and handled and may be okay with children old enough to understand boundaries with cats. Loki spends most of his time resting and sunbathing. He enjoys short play sessions with toys, but his favorite thing to do is to be in the company of others. Loki has a history of urinary crystals and a urinary blockage. He needs to eat primarily wet food and have access to fresh water. There are great resources about how to support male cats with urinary issues, since this is a common issue. Some of the main treatments are keeping his stress low, cat water fountains, wet food, and enrichment.
