Hi everyone, I am the loveable Keta and here's some information about me: Age: 6 yrs 6 months Breed: Lab X Border Collie Weight: 45 lbs Height: 50 cm Gender: Female I am unlike most dogs you've ever met, a true original. There are many '-isms' that I have worked on over the years and overall I am a good friend when it comes down to it. I just need the right home and an empathetic person to help me adjust. With some love, exercise (1 hour a day is often enough) and a person devoted to me, I will flourish! My current family is looking to rehome me as the family is growing and my behavior around small children can be unpredictable. My rescue story starts as a 4 month old pup in Fort Nelson BC, where I came to the foster home as a bright-eyed puppy with lots to learn. Unfortunately I had been abused prior to that and never socialized with other dogs, so the beginning was a steep learning curve. When I was 6 months old we moved to Squamish. I have always lived with a cat and while I have a prey drive, I will always allow the cat to rule the house. Most animals that can assert a bit of dominance will put me in my place quickly. So many things were scary to me in my younger years, like cyclists, people with walking poles (I was hit with sticks) and even pinecones (can't tell you why). Today I still get nervous at times and concerned for my safety. If I feel safe with another dog, I calm down. However, if the other dog is agitated and aggressive, I mirror the other dogs behaviour. If I see a dopey older dog who isn't bothered about me, there's no problem. Confidence is something I lacked from the start, but that is improving every day. I am no longer afraid of people with walking poles, bicycles or pinecones. I do have reactions with some strangers when I notice tension in them. If I am reprimanded by my human, I am very quick to understand and obey. My training has included formal lessons, visits to dog parks and socialization through group walks with other dogs. Nature is where I feel most at home and I love the water (but only where I can touch), snow and the forest. As much as I can sleep the day away, I can also be keen on a forest run or walk . My interactions with familiar dogs are good and I'm always trying my hardest to please them, perhaps sometimes a little too hard. A good tug of war is one of my favortie activities and you'll be surprised at my strength. When hiking in the mountains, I can be off leash and my recall is good, especially when treats are involved. A monkey call, 'oo oo aa aa' is my preferred call of choice, so much fun! I am not a big fan of the city. I had lived in Vancouver for a few years and found it could be very stressful. When garbage day comes around you can find me hiding in the closet. Big trucks and loud noises stress me out. When I was around 8 months old I was stung by some wasps that got stuck in my fur. Since then, bees make me tuck my tail and hide. . Though the past 6 and a half years has had its challenges, I really did luck out with a fantastic human who took great care of me. Now we are looking for someone to take on that role of being my new human, helping me improve my confidence and becoming your new best friend. I am crate trained and leash trained but am still working on the finer arts of being on leash. A gentle tug on the prong collar chain helps me get moving on walks, but until I get to the forest ,I am a ball of stress. Once I am in the forest, though, I am as happy as a clam! My crate is where you'll find me sleeping most nights as that is where I feel safest. Chasing sticks is a favourite pastime for me, as long as you don't always expect them back. My human tries to take me everywhere and I am most comfortable by someone's side. I go to the office, I go skiing, I go hiking. Car rides are tolerable if I am behind the passengers seat on the ground where I can curl up.. I am house trained and can sit, stay, stop, lay down, and even run through your legs, if you like that sort of thing. I get along with: Dogs: Yes Cats: Yes Kids: No Off-leash meetings make me feel most comfortable, and I fare best with dogs who are calm. An older dog, who can show me the ropes would be the perfect dog sibling. Young children are a bit unpredictbale and make me anxious, however older children should be no problem as I am not an aggressive dog, just lacking confidence and direction. I am fully house trained, spayed, microchipped, my shots are up to date. An adoption fee of $100 applies. THIS IS A COURTESY POST. PLEASE CONTACT THE PERSON OR GROUP LISTED BELOW.
