Cute and soft and oh so cuddly! Spencer is a 7-month-old male Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix who currently weighs in at approximately 33 pounds with a little bit of growing still to do. We estimate he will be around 40 pounds full grown, give or take a little bit. Spencer came to us via the Mahoning County Dog Pound where he came in as a stray. Tough life for such a young pup. Spencer is something of a calm puppy, very eager to please, very into people of all shapes and sizes, very squishy, and with a soft temperament to match his ridiculously soft coat. Spence is quite a sensitive little soul - he takes things hard and would do best with a family that will use primarily positive methods in working with and training him. He can be a bit of a submissive urinator, but we believe that as he becomes more confident, and grows up, this will end. The confidence will be easy in the right home - he just needs structure, boundaries, rules that don't change from moment to moment, and stability. Imagine a puppy being ousted from the only home he has ever known, to live life on the streets. That might would cause anyone to have a few submissive potty issues...even a person. Spencer seems to get along well with other dogs though a meet and greet would absolutely be required. He is by no means a pushy or bossy dog and would probably do well with both friendly males and females. Cats are unknown, but while he may do some chasing, a dog savvy cat is probably going to be fine. We can check his reaction to seeing feline friends upon request. Spencer would probably be fine with respectful children who know how to conduct themselves around dogs and who could be gentle and kind with him. He isn't timid or scared, he's just very soft and sweet - to that end, rowdy and rough kids will likely be too much. Spencer will need to continue his journey to being a grown up dog and will need a family that understands that fact. He will need to go places, see things, learn lots - all with YOU! Socialization is just about as important as training, and we can assume that Spencer hasn't seen a lot of much in his relatively short life. That is where his forever and ever owners will come in! He walks well on a leash already, rides well in a car, and just needs some fine tuning with all the rest. Spencer is waiting to clear medical and should be ready for his new home in approximately 7-10 days, give or take. We are taking applications on him in the meantime.
