Roxy – Black Female, 3 Years, 55 lbs. Roxy is a gentle, sweet-natured girl looking for a patient home where she can continue to build confidence and feel safe. She is crate trained, potty trained, and walks nicely on a leash. Roxy knows "sit," comes when called, and is currently working on her "stay" command. She is attentive to her people, eager to please, and enjoys staying close by. At home, Roxy is calm, quiet, and easy to live with. She loves to cuddle, eats and drinks well, and has shown no interest in chewing or destructive behaviors. Toys don't hold much appeal for her—she would rather spend her time relaxing near her people. Her foster reports that she rarely barks and is an incredibly laid-back companion. Roxy enjoys outings and spending time outdoors, whether relaxing in the grass at the park or accompanying her people on adventures. She especially enjoys exploring new places and cooling off near the water. While she can be shy in unfamiliar situations, she has made tremendous progress and continues to gain confidence every day. She is very friendly with people but appreciates gentle introductions and a little time to warm up. Once she trusts you, she is affectionate, loyal, and happiest when she can be near her family. One thing that definitely gets her attention is a squirrel! Her calm demeanor quickly disappears when she spots one, so a secure leash and attentive handler are important during walks. She may not be best with cats in the home. Roxy rides well in the car once she's inside, though she currently needs a little help getting in and out. With patience and encouragement, we feel she will learn to hop in on her own. Roxy is still learning how to navigate interactions with other animals. She is not leash reactive or aggressive, but she can be shy and uncertain around some dogs, particularly larger or unfamiliar ones. During one introduction to a large dog, she became overwhelmed and sought reassurance from her handler rather than engaging. However, she has calmly shared space indoors with a smaller dog without issue. Because her comfort level varies depending on the dog and situation, slow introductions and allowing her to move at her own pace are important. Despite this, she has come a long way and continues to blossom with patience, consistency, and positive experiences. If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who enjoys a quieter lifestyle, outdoor adventures, and plenty of cuddle time, Roxy may be the perfect match. Her gentle spirit, loving nature, and willingness to learn make her a wonderful dog who simply needs someone willing to continue building her confidence and helping her become the best version of herself.
