Looking for a loyal sidekick with a giant personality packed into a perfectly sized mastiff mix? Meet Rupert! This handsome French Mastiff/Bully mix is around 2–3 years old, weighs 62 pounds, and has mastered the art of being both a goofy best friend and a devoted companion. Rupert is completely house-trained, crate-trained, and an all-around gentleman in the home. He happily trots into his crate for a treat, settles quietly, and has never had an accident in his foster home. He knows several commands, including sit, shake, down, and wait, and has impressed his foster family with how quickly he adapted to home life after leaving the shelter. While Rupert can be a little cautious when meeting new people, he doesn't take long to warm up. Offer him a hot dog or toss a ball his way, and you'll likely have a friend for life. Once you've earned his trust, Rupert's affectionate, loyal nature shines through. He loves being close to his people and would make an incredible companion for someone who appreciates the devoted personality that mastiff-type dogs are known for. Speaking of balls—BALL. IS. LIFE. Rupert's favorite hobby, favorite toy, and favorite pastime all involve a ball. Whether he's playing fetch, showing off his catching skills, or simply lounging in the yard chewing on his latest prized possession, Rupert is at his happiest when a ball is nearby. Future adopters should be prepared to maintain a healthy "ball budget" for this enthusiastic collector! Rupert has a medium energy level and is easy to satisfy with a daily walk, some fetch, and mental enrichment. After that, he's perfectly content relaxing in the yard beside his humans. He isn't vocal, doesn't struggle with separation anxiety, and has been wonderfully patient as he settles into foster care. Because Rupert can be reserved with strangers and has not lived with children, he would do best in a home with respectful teenagers (13+) and adults who understand the value of allowing a dog to build trust at his own pace. His experience with other dogs and cats is limited, so any introductions should be handled thoughtfully. He may do best as an only pet or potentially with a calm, submissive canine companion. Rupert's foster family describes him as sweet, loyal, and an absolute ham. He loves rolling in the grass, dramatically flopping onto his back for belly rubs, and performing his adorable mini version of the classic mastiff drool shake. For anyone who loves the look and personality of a Dogue de Bordeaux but isn't looking for a 100-pound dog, Rupert offers the best of both worlds. If you're a confident adopter who appreciates a dog with a thoughtful heart, a playful spirit, and enough loyalty to last a lifetime, Rupert may be the perfect match for you. If you are interested in Rupert, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ The adoption fee is $450. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.
