Meet Zoey – A Sweet Soul Looking for Her Forever Companion Zoey is a beautiful, purebred lemon-colored Basset Hound who will celebrate her 8th birthday this September. She has spent her entire life as a cherished indoor companion, surrounded by love, comfort, and plenty of attention—and that's exactly what she hopes to find again. If there is one thing Zoey loves most, it's people. She is a devoted shadow who will happily follow you from room to room, always hoping for a gentle touch, a kind word, or a spot beside you on the couch. Affection is her love language, and she has an endless supply of it to give. Zoey was originally being trained as a therapy dog, and while life circumstances prevented her certification, her gentle heart always shined through. During visits to assisted living and memory care facilities, she would instinctively place her head in the laps of residents in wheelchairs, offering quiet comfort and companionship. Those moments revealed the special kindness that makes Zoey who she is. Over the past several years, Zoey has experienced a great deal of change, including the loss of daily companionship from family members she loved dearly. More recently, frequent boarding and time spent alone have contributed to some anxiety, making it clear that she deserves a home where she can once again enjoy the companionship and attention she thrives on. Zoey is well-mannered and knows several commands, including sit, down, spin, stay, come, and leave it—although she'll admit that "leave it" isn't her favorite! She walks nicely on a leash and enjoys leisurely strolls, though jogging is not her idea of fun. Around her home, she may sound quite protective while on leash, but appearances can be deceiving. Despite her impressive bark, she has never shown aggression and will often bow submissively or avoid confrontation when meeting other dogs. She is fully house-trained and will either go to the door or bark when she needs to go outside. In the rare event of an accident, Zoey will often retreat to her kennel as if to let you know something isn't quite right. She has always slept with her humans but is adaptable enough to be comfortable wherever her family is. Zoey's feeding routine is simple but important. She does best with three smaller meals throughout the day, as larger meals can upset her stomach. One of those meals includes a banana—a favorite treat—and once a week she enjoys a scrambled egg. What Zoey truly needs is not a perfect home, but a loving one. She would flourish with someone who enjoys companionship as much as she does, someone who wants a loyal friend nearby through life's everyday moments. In return, you'll receive unwavering devotion, endless affection, and the company of one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. If you're looking for a gentle, loving companion who will happily spend her days by your side, Zoey may be the perfect addition to your family.
