When Clue first arrived in foster care, she was sweet, gentle, a little shy, and eager to stay close to her people. Over the past several weeks, while lovingly raising her five puppies, she has blossomed into an incredibly affectionate, intelligent, and emotionally intuitive companion. She has gone from a cautious newcomer to a confident family dog who thrives on connection and being included in everyday life. Personality One of the first things people notice about Clue is how expressive she is. She communicates with her eyes, body language, and gentle gestures in a way that feels almost human. She pays close attention to conversations, routines, and the people around her. Clue loves learning words and quickly picks up on household patterns. She knows the children's names, understands numerous commands and phrases, and seems genuinely excited when she recognizes familiar words like "car," "outside," "treat," "food," and "pets." She is affectionate without being demanding. A gentle paw on your leg is her way of asking for a cuddle. She loves hugs, snuggles, kisses, and spending time with her people. She has formed strong bonds not only with her foster family but also with family friends who visit regularly. Daily Life Clue wakes with the family each morning and happily joins in whatever the day brings. She enjoys car rides, school drop offs, errands, and simply being near her people. If someone is working from home, she may quietly follow along or settle on the couch nearby. During the day, she loves stretching out in a sunny spot for a nap. Recently, after spending so much time focused on raising her puppies, her playful side has begun to emerge. One of her favorite games is stealing the 8 year old's socks and playing hide and seek with them. At night, she willingly settles into her sleeping area when told "bedtime" and patiently waits until morning, even though she is fully capable of climbing out. Training and Intelligence Clue is remarkably trainable. She learned household expectations quickly through positive reinforcement and has mastered skills such as sit, stay, waiting at doors, shake, place, and recall. What makes her special is not just her intelligence but her willingness to learn. When presented with a behavior that needs improvement, she genuinely seems eager to understand what is expected and succeeds quickly with consistency and guidance. She has learned the children's names, recognizes many household routines, and actively listens for words she knows. Living with Clue often feels less like owning a dog and more like sharing your home with a thoughtful companion who wants to understand and participate in family life. Energy Level and Exercise Her energy level is best described as calm and balanced. She settles beautifully inside the home and behaves like a mature adult dog. While she enjoys relaxing with her family, she would love regular walks and opportunities to explore the world. Having spent the past several weeks focused on raising puppies, she is ready to enjoy more adventures, outings, and car rides. She walks nicely on leash with minimal direction, rides quietly in the car, and gains confidence in new places when accompanied by her people. She does not display hyperactive behavior, zoomies, or destructive tendencies. When left alone, she is content to relax on the couch or watch for her family from the window. Kids, Cats, and Other Animals Clue is especially wonderful with children and has lived happily with kids ages 8 to 13. She enjoys following them around, relaxing at their feet during homework, cuddling during movie nights, and running around the yard with them. She has recently discovered the joy of fetch and is enthusiastically learning the game. She currently lives with two resident cats and has learned household boundaries around them. She is respectful of their space and responds well to structure and guidance. Like many dogs, she finds squirrels and birds very interesting and would happily chase them if given the opportunity. House Manners Clue is house trained, uses a dog door, and reliably signals when she needs to go outside by pacing near the door. She does not chew, dig, or engage in destructive behavior. She prefers going outside to potty and has not shown interest in using potty pads. She is an appropriate alert barker and will let her family know when someone unfamiliar enters the property. Early on, she barked at regular visitors such as the gardener and pool technician, but once she understood they were part of the routine, she stopped. Clue learns quickly who belongs and adjusts her behavior accordingly. Ideal Home Clue would thrive in a home where she can be included in daily activities, enjoy regular walks, and accompany her family on outings whenever possible. At just 22 pounds, Clue is the perfect size for almost any lifestyle. She's small enough to travel comfortably, fit easily into the car, and curl up beside you on the couch, yet sturdy enough to join her family on walks, adventures, and everyday activities. Whether that home includes children, adults, or other pets, her greatest desire is simply to belong. She wants to be part of the family and share in life's everyday moments. Why We Love Clue My favorite thing about Clue is how respectfully she communicates her wants and needs. Rather than demanding attention, she asks for it. A gentle paw means she would like to snuggle. In the morning, she may patiently sit by the door and ask to join you for a car ride. She is deeply in tune with the people around her and has a remarkable ability to match the energy of the moment. Whether you need a walking companion, a cuddle buddy, or a quiet friend nearby, Clue is happy to fill the role. She is also incredibly teachable. When there is an undesirable behavior, Clue does not get stuck in it. She is open to learning, eager to understand expectations, and genuinely wants to get it right. Watching her grow in confidence and learn new skills has been one of the most rewarding parts of fostering her. If you're looking for a dog who is loving, intelligent, eager to learn, emotionally connected, and endlessly loyal, Clue may be the missing piece you've been searching for. She has spent the last several weeks devoted to raising her puppies. Now it's her turn to find a family of her own.
