A Good Samaritan asked us to take a dog that she saved from an apparent drug user who was selling her for $20 on a street corner. Of course, we did not hesitate. Giselle has had multiple litters of puppies in her short life and needed medical care. Giselle was very timid and frightened at first. For the longest time, she would not pull herself away from the wall she was leaning against. However, soon she was coming to the front of her pen to get her daily treats. Then it wasn't long before she wanted to be out with the other dogs, but would not let us touch her. Everything was a slow process of gaining her trust, and she was not a happy girl. But now her tail wags and she is happy to see us, get her food, and go out to run with the other fosters! However, little Giselle remains very frightened of men; therefore, we must stipulate that she go to a female-only household. We know this will tug at everyone’s heartstrings, but unless you are committed to helping her become the wonderful pet she can be, do not rush to apply. Seeing her take her baby steps in becoming a normal pup is a blessing in itself. Our must-haves for beautiful little Giselle include: A fenced yard Female-only household Another adult, small, well-socialized dog for her to continue to learn from Someone who can be home more often than not Someone with either unsocialized dog experience or someone who has lots of patience and a desire to help her No apartment, condos, or high-rises She will stay with us until the right home comes along. We know that the loving home she deserves is out there! Bio for Stella: Beautiful Miss Stella is a super sweetheart! Looks and personality, this little one has it all. She gets along great with her doxie foster sisters and even allows them to share a doggie bed with her. Her potty and leash training are works in progress. She is making progress, but isn’t there yet. She, like many former breeder dogs, didn’t have the opportunity to learn these essentials as a puppy, so it takes a bit longer to train her. Our little Stella is just looking for a home where she will be loved and given the patience, understanding, and structure needed to learn. Stella would love to be your best friend and companion. If you seriously think she may be the girl for you, complete an application or contact her foster mom for more info. Stella is retired from breeding and looking for her loving forever home. Because she was a breeding dog, she was not well socialized and will need patience when meeting new people. Once she warms up to you, she’s a sweetheart! While she may be 6 years old, she has a lot of spunk and would do best with another small dog, preferably a younger adult, to learn to play with. The one thing that you must understand is that she doesn’t know what it’s like to be a pet, so you will need patience when adopting her. Our must-haves for beautiful Stella include: A fenced yard Someone who is home more often than not Another younger, small, well-socialized dog for her to play with and learn from No apartment, high-rises, or condos, please If you have the experience and the patience, then you are welcome to apply for sweet little Stella. ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply , it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
