Meet Toby, the 1 year old terrier mix! Toby is a little cutie patootie who came to the shelter after his previous owners could no longer care for him. He is a little shy at first, but warms right up to people becomes a little shadow to his person. He has lived with a small dog in his previous home and often initiated play, however the other dog didn't always enjoy his playful spirit. Here at the shelter he has been a bit more timid with the dogs he met with, showing interest, but he is still a little shy. Any resident dogs should have a meeting here at the shelter as well as a slow introduction at home. Toby does have some experience with cats, however he likes them a little too much and may chase them, so potential adopters should keep this in mind. Toby is a loving boy who will need some time to decompress in his future home, but with some acclimation he will be the perfect companion! If you are looking for a sweet pup, come meet toby! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location's Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you'd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
