This adorable 5-6 month old, 6 lb Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix came to DPS from a shelter and has quickly won over everyone she's met. With her petite frame, expressive eyes, and hilarious habit of rolling onto her back whenever she's picked up, Carrot Top has perfected the art of being absolutely irresistible. Daily Life with Carrot Top Carrot Top starts her mornings around 7:00 a.m. with a trip out to the yard for a potty break, followed by breakfast and another chance to stretch her legs. She's a flexible little pup who settles nicely into her family's routine. Throughout the day, she enjoys a combination of naps, sunbathing, snacking, and spending time near her people. You'll often find her stretched out in a sunny spot in the living room or snoozing beside a desk while someone works. She likes to nibble on lunch around noon and appreciates having a small bowl of kibble available so she can grab a bite when the mood strikes. She gets additional potty breaks throughout the day, enjoys short walks, eats dinner with the family around 5:00-6:00 p.m., and heads off to her cozy little kennel for bedtime around 9:00 p.m. From Shy Shelter Pup to Loving Companion When Carrot Top first arrived, she was understandably timid and unsure of herself. She didn't have much interest in food and preferred to keep to herself while she figured out her new surroundings. Once she realized she was safe, though, her true personality blossomed. Today, Carrot Top is affectionate, loving, and wonderfully sweet. She's the kind of dog who loves being cradled like a baby and seems to think her natural position is upside down. Move her from one spot to another and she'll immediately roll onto her back, hoping for belly rubs and attention. She can be a little velcro dog at times, happily following her favorite people from room to room. Other days, she's perfectly content to relax on her own and enjoy a peaceful nap. She strikes a wonderful balance between companionship and independence. Great with Kids One of the things that makes Carrot Top especially special is how wonderful she is with children. She absolutely adores her foster family's daughter and is incredibly gentle with her. In fact, she often chooses to cuddle up next to her and has even been known to sleep with her. She remains calm and comfortable around kids and doesn't seem intimidated by the activity and excitement that can come with family life. Playful, Brave, and Full of Personality Like many puppies, Carrot Top has bursts of playful energy, especially in the mornings. She enjoys playing and is happy to romp around with dogs her own size. When it comes to larger dogs, Carrot Top is convinced she's ten feet tall. She may bark at big dogs on walks, not because she's scared, but because she has absolutely no idea she's tiny. Her foster family describes her as completely fearless. She's still learning her leash skills and can get distracted while walking, but she's a smart puppy who continues to improve with practice and consistency. House Training and Home Manners Carrot Top is doing very well with her house training. She regularly goes outside to potty and has not needed potty pads in her foster home. Her foster family has learned that if she starts whining during the day, she's usually letting them know she needs a potty break. She's also earned an impressive level of trust. Unlike many young puppies, she has not required an exercise pen and only uses her kennel at bedtime. Like any young dog, she may occasionally decide that a stuffed toy—or your child's favorite teddy bear—looks like a fun chew toy, so appropriate puppy toys are always a good idea! If you want a snuggle buddy, she'll happily fill that role. If you need some quiet time, she'll respect that too. She's adaptable, affectionate, and doesn't ask for much beyond love, consistency, and a comfy place to nap. Why We Love Her What sets Carrot Top apart is her combination of sweetness, confidence, and trust. She's remarkably good with children, loves to cuddle, and has one of the funniest quirks we've ever seen: the moment you pick her up, she melts into your arms and flips onto her back like a baby. Her foster family says they've trusted her more than almost any foster they've had. No potty pads. No exercise pen. Just a sweet little puppy who wants to be part of the family. Carrot Top may be small, but she's packed with love, personality, and enough charm to keep you smiling every single day.
