About

OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. [First Dog] OTHER PETS: Fatima was not interested in socializing with other dogs, though she does greet them well both with and without barriers. She would likely enjoy being an only dog but would also enjoy her own space with other animals that are just as independent or relaxed as she is, Fatima should meet any dog she would be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)] KIDS: Fatima is comfortable with most handling after initially meeting someone and then soliciting attention from them, she has not exhibited resource-guarding while at TJO. Fatima would likely get along well with any human who knows how to interact with animals in a respectful manner; she should meet any minors she would be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Fatima is an active older lady who isn't shy about getting a nap in when she needs one. More frequent shorter excursions may work better for her than one longer daily walk, but she may do well with a mix of both approaches - the best way to see what works is to try different combinations of length and frequency ensuring Fatima does not over exert herself. While Fatima was more interested in humans than toys at TJO, she may appreciate toys more once she decompresses and feels safe. A combination of regular exercise and mental enrichment such as games, food puzzles, and learning new tricks will help meet her needs. [Couch Potato / Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Fatima has multiple mammary masses removed at her spay surgery and also has cataracts in both eyes (one is fully covered, the other is still in early development,) she will need a good relationship with a vet to ensure she lives her best life. [Above Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Fatima bond with her new owner and build confidence while learning new skills and fun tricks. Keeping an older dog active both mentally and physically helps keep them young at heart! [Minimal] GROOMING: Regular brushing will help keep Fatima's coat clean and matt-free between grooms; she should be groomed every 6 – 8 weeks. [Professional Grooming]
