Adoption fee: $650 Meet Turnip! Some dogs are happy. Some dogs are friendly. Turnip has taken both of those qualities and turned them all the way up. This adorable 10–12 month old, 18 lb Terrier mix is a walking, tail-wagging celebration of life. Her foster family describes her as a “whirlwind of affection,” and once you meet her, you'll understand why. Turnip greets every day, every person, and every adventure with unrelenting enthusiasm and joy. If you could somehow harness her energy and optimism, you might just solve the world's energy crisis. Turnip starts her day around 8 AM when her family gets up. After a quick potty break outside, she enjoys breakfast and then launches into one of her favorite morning activities: zooming around the living room, tossing toys into the air and entertaining herself with puppy-like glee. When her foster family heads to work, she settles into her crate. She may voice a brief protest about being left behind, but quickly settles and relaxes quietly until everyone returns home. At heart, Turnip is a people dog. She doesn't just like humans— she absolutely adores them. She's the type of pup who meets someone and immediately decides they're her new best friend. Personal space is still a concept she's learning, which means her preferred greeting style involves climbing directly into your lap while wagging her entire body. She's a classic Velcro dog who loves following her people from room to room, always curious about what they're doing and hoping to be included. When it's time to relax, she'll happily nap beside you—or preferably on top of you. Turnip is energetic, playful, and wonderfully goofy. She would thrive in an active home where she can join in on walks, hikes, outings, and everyday adventures. She walks nicely on leash, although she may pull a bit when she spots a potential new friend. Whether she's trying to meet the dog or the human is sometimes anyone's guess. She has done well meeting neighborhood dogs and would likely enjoy a canine companion, though it's certainly not required. She currently lives with a cat and has been remarkably respectful. While she occasionally attempts to initiate play, she listens when the cat sets boundaries and calmly accepts hisses or swats without reacting. Like many young dogs, Turnip is still polishing up her manners. She's making good progress with potty training and understands that outside is the place to go, but she'll need a family committed to continuing her routine and reinforcing good habits. She's also quite clever— after arriving in foster care, she quickly figured out how to open a gate that was supposed to keep her out of certain rooms. Her future family should expect a smart dog who likes to keep life interesting! One of her foster family's favorite stories perfectly captures Turnip's spirit. When she first arrived, she was convinced that the open-backed stairs leading to their front door were absolutely terrifying. After several days of being carried, her foster family created a trail of kibble up the stairs, with plenty of encouragement and lap-snuggle breaks along the way. She finally made it to the top. The next time she went outside, she marched right up the stairs all by herself as if she'd been doing it forever. Today she's a staircase expert. Turnip is looking for a family that appreciates a dog with a big personality, an even bigger heart, and enough affection to last a lifetime. She'll reward you with laughter, companionship, and endless enthusiasm for whatever the day brings. If you're searching for a best friend who will greet every morning like it's the greatest day ever, Turnip is ready to meet you.
