Adoption fee: $650 Churro: Tiny Body, Big Opinions, Even Bigger Heart Like her namesake, Churro is sweet, a little crunchy around the edges at first, and absolutely impossible not to love once you get to know her. This adorable 2-3 year old Chihuahua mix weighs just 8 pounds, but don't let her petite size fool you. Churro has enough personality, determination, and devotion packed into her tiny frame to fill a dog three times her size. When Churro first arrived from the shelter, she was completely shut down. The world felt overwhelming, and it was clear she would need patience, kindness, and time to learn that she was finally safe. But even in those early days, there was something impossible to miss: Churro desperately wanted to love and be loved. And little by little, that's exactly what's happening. A Day in the Life of Churro Churro starts her mornings around 7:30 AM after spending the night sleeping peacefully on her mattress beside her foster family's bed. After breakfast around 8:00 AM, she heads out for her morning walk. While she isn't quite ready to declare herself an enthusiastic hiking partner just yet, she's making steady progress and continues to build confidence with every outing. The rest of her day is spent hanging out with her people, supervising household activities, relaxing in sunny spots, and keeping tabs on everyone around her. She enjoys being near her humans and prefers to know exactly what's happening at all times. Dinner is served around 8:00 PM, and after another evening of companionship and relaxation, Churro settles back onto her mattress around 11:00 PM and sleeps soundly through the night. From Shut Down to Shining The transformation Churro has made since arriving in foster care has been remarkable. The timid little dog who arrived unsure of the world has slowly started showing her true personality. While she remains cautious with new people and unfamiliar situations, her confidence grows every day. She enjoys being around her family and likes having her people nearby. Although she's perfectly capable of relaxing when left alone, she much prefers sharing space with the humans she trusts. And once you've earned your way into Churro's inner circle? Prepare yourself for a loyal companion who thinks your lap is one of the finest places on earth. Part-Time Lap Dog, Full-Time Security Officer Every household needs security, and Churro has enthusiastically volunteered for the position. Churro is naturally watchful and protective of the people she loves. New people often receive a cautious inspection before being granted approval. It's not that she's unfriendly— she simply believes in proper security procedures. Once she decides someone belongs, however, her sweet and affectionate side shines through. And once she's met you and fallen for you? You're IN. Leader of the Pack Churro currently lives with another foster dog and the two get along wonderfully. In fact, while they enjoy spending time together around the house and yard, Churro has made it clear that she sees herself as the team captain. She likes to keep everyone organized and ensure that household rules are followed appropriately. Leadership comes naturally to her. Her foster family often jokes that despite her tiny size and slender little silhouette, Churro carries herself with the confidence of a much larger dog. Playful, Active, and a Champion Sunbather Churro has a lovely balance of energy and relaxation. She enjoys playing, exploring, and staying involved in whatever her people are doing. But she's equally happy stretching out beside her favorite person for a relaxing afternoon nap. One of her favorite activities is finding the perfect sunny spot and soaking up the warmth while keeping a watchful eye on the world around her. It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it. Learning the Ropes She's continuing to build confidence on leash walks and is learning that the world outside isn't nearly as scary as it once seemed. Other dogs can still make her nervous, but she is improving with patience and positive experiences. The wonderful thing about Churro is that she wants to succeed. Every day she becomes a little more comfortable, a little more confident, and a little more ready to embrace life. Churro's Perfect Home Churro would thrive in a home with adults or older children who understand that trust is something she builds over time. Her ideal family will appreciate her loyal nature, respect her need for thoughtful introductions to new people, and continue helping her gain confidence in the world. Most importantly, she needs a family willing to celebrate every step of her journey as she continues to blossom. Why You'll Fall in Love At first, people notice Churro's adorable little face and her hilariously skinny silhouette trotting through the house like she owns the place. But what truly wins hearts is her devotion. The way she keeps a careful eye on her favorite people. The way she follows along to make sure everyone is safe. The way she settles into your lap once she trusts you. The way she quietly asks to be included in your world. Churro may have arrived at the shelter scared and uncertain, but she's proving every day that underneath that cautious exterior is a sweet, funny, loving little dog who is ready to give her whole heart to the right family. And if you ask Churro, she'll tell you that family should probably include a comfortable lap, plenty of sunshine, and a security position with excellent benefits.
