About

Rooster Meet Rooster, a 1-year, 7-month-old Australian Cattle Dog with a big personality, an even bigger love for water, and all the intelligence, athleticism, and energy his breed is known for. Rooster has really come into his own! Thanks to regular outings and enrichment, he's become much more confident and genuinely enjoys meeting new people. Whether he's attending community events, visiting local pet stores, or heading out on an adventure, Rooster happily greets adults, kids, and other dogs with a wagging tail and loves soaking up attention. If there's water nearby, you can bet Rooster will find it! Kiddie pools are one of his favorite things, and at our Fast & Furriest event, he was the only dog who enthusiastically jumped in to cool off. He's happiest when he has an outlet for his energy, whether that's splashing around, exploring, or joining you for a run. During a recent 2.5-mile run, he started off a little overexcited but quickly settled into an excellent running partner. Even when an off-leash dog unexpectedly lunged at him, Rooster simply created space instead of reacting, showing just how level-headed he can be. Rooster has been a star on his shelter outings. At Fast & Furriest, he greeted people, children, and dogs with ease, rode well in the car, and showed off his playful personality. During a visit to Pet Supplies Plus, he quickly won everyone over with his friendly nature, enjoyed attention from kids and adults alike, and played wonderfully with both Manchi and Denali. He's still polishing a few manners—like remembering that every water bowl isn't a swimming pool and gaining confidence hopping into the car on his own—but he's eager to learn and continues to make great progress. And if you're wondering what treats win him over, skip the French fries... this picky guy would much rather have meat! Rooster is potty trained and was surrendered because of his strong herding instincts, so he'll thrive with an adopter who understands working breeds and can provide structure, consistency, and plenty of mental and physical enrichment. Rooster has enjoyed making both male and female dog friends at the shelter, though he tends to be a bit more selective with male dogs. As with any dog, proper introductions are important to help set him up for success. He would do best in a home without small children. If you're looking for a smart, active companion who loves adventures, making a splash, and being part of the action, Rooster is ready to become your loyal best friend.
