Meet Gunner, a handsome 5-year-old Pit Bull with a larger-than-life personality and so much love to give. Gunner is searching for a very special home that understands his needs and is ready to embrace both his energetic side and his affectionate, cuddly nature. Gunner was previously adopted, but unfortunately returned because his energy level was more than his adopters were prepared for. This active boy thrives when he has an outlet for both his body and mind. He would love an adopter who enjoys outdoor adventures like hiking, trips to the lake, long walks, jogging, or other activities that keep him engaged and fulfilled. After a day of fun and exercise, Gunner is more than happy to settle down for some well-earned rest and cuddle time — and if you let him, he would absolutely love to sleep right beside you in bed. At around 56 pounds, Gunner is strong, athletic, and full of enthusiasm. He tends to bond more quickly with men than women, but with patience and consistency, he forms incredibly loyal and loving relationships. Once you earn his trust, Gunner becomes deeply devoted to his people and wants nothing more than to be by your side. Gunner would do best as the only pet in the home so he can fully focus on his bond with his family without the stress of sharing space with other animals. We are also recommending an adult-only home with no children to help provide the calm structure and consistency he needs to succeed.Gunner is crate trained, potty trained, and knows basic commands. He is currently continuing to work on his leash manners while here at the shelter and is making progress with consistent handling and guidance. Gunner is also on continuous supplements for his hips to help keep him comfortable and support his mobility as he stays active.While Gunner has some challenges, he also has so much potential. He is looking for someone committed, patient, and active — someone who understands that dogs like Gunner thrive with routine, leadership, exercise, and love.
