Hatch Date: 1998 Peabody is a 28-year-old Green-Winged Macaw with beautiful, bright Red, Green, and Blue feathers. He is believed to be male. He has lived with his family for the past 20 years and before that was with another family member. He is very much loved, but his family will be moving and will not able to take him. He is intelligent and has a gentle soul. He is equal parts sassy and adorable. Peabody thrives with someone patient and understanding, someone who recognizes that trust takes time and is earned through a calm and consistent presence. He has spent the past 25 years with Chi, a Red Fronted Amazon. They live together happily, but do not interact. He has grown up with Chi by his side, but they are in separate cages. Chi is also available for adoption. Peabody loves to be sung to. Especially the song from the children's show "Barney". His mom does not know why she started singing that to him and Chi. But it's been ever since they were young. Every time Mom sings it, Peabody starts bobbing his head and dancing. Peabody knows some words, and he likes to make noise with his beak against the cage. He mimics mom's laugh and loves to cuddle in her neck when he sits on her shoulder. There have been times when he is very vociferous and will scream out. This usually occurs when he wants to eat in the morning. Or when he wants attention. Peabody enjoys playing with his toys. He likes toys he can chew and demolish in a day or two. So be prepared to buy or make lots of toys! Peabody is groomed every 6 months, including wing trims. He doesn't fly, but does enjoy a stroll on the floor. His mom keeps a close eye on him, as there are cats in the house and to make sure he doesn't get into trouble. Once given the space he needs, Peabody shows his own quiet charm and personality. He does best with a person who respects his boundaries, enjoys building a bond at his pace, and appreciates the deep connection that can grow when time and care are invested. He enjoys all kinds of fruit, nuts, and nutriberries for birds. He will eat table food. He has been eating a parrot seed mix. Peabody visits an avian veterinarian twice a year for wellness exams and grooming. He has been disease tested for Chlamydia and PBFD. Peabody is participating in our Help with Rehoming program and is still with his family in Toms River, NJ. He will only be adopted to a forever home within driving distance. We will NOT ship our birds. Three visits are required to adopt Peabody. For the Love of Birds is a group of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA. We do not have a central location.
