She was rescued from an actively burning burn pit that left her with multiple wounds and patches of missing fur. While most of her fur has grown back, she may always have a few bare patches on her back. We like to think they’re just little reminders of how far she’s come. Dakota’s foster mom says that she has been the easiest foster puppy that has ever been in her care. She is sweet, gentle and smart. She’s a great balance of calm couch potato and playful zoomie puppy. She’s basically everything that you could want in a dog. She’s currently weighs 20 pounds and will probably double that weight when full grown. She is kennel trained, sleeps through the night and already knows a few basic commands like “sit” and “kennel”. She responds very well to soft correction simply by saying “no” or “gentle”. As long as she’s taken out regularly, she does wonderful with potty training. When she’s done doing her business outside she will scratch at the door to let you know that she’s ready to come in. She’s still working on walking on a leash without trying to eat it, but who can blame her. At four months old, she is very much “literally just a baby” and can occasionally get scared and need some reassurance and snuggles. She can be shy when meeting new people but once she warms up to them she’s incredibly affectionate. She will often paw at you or lean into your leg when she wants some attention. She’s been great with the 7 and 5 year old in her foster home. She loves to play and will steal all of the other dog’s toys if she can. She also loves her two giant stuffed duck toys and will carry them around the house and pull them into her kennel when it’s time for bed. She does fine riding in the car, sitting in someone’s lap. She’s also done well getting her nails trimmed at the groomers although she can still be a tad shy with them sometimes. Bath time isn’t her favorite thing in the world, but she does tolerate it pretty well, especially if the water is nice and warm. She has not chewed on things she wasn’t supposed to, and she has not been destructive as some puppies can be. Because of her playful nature, she would do best in a home that doesn’t have a senior dog, as they may not appreciate her enthusiasm for playtime. She would thrive in a family that would take the time to continue working on commands with her since she’s so quick and eager to learn. Her kind, gentle nature makes her a perfect fit for a family looking for a dog that just wants to be loved. Our adoption fee is $175 and includes age appropriate vaccines, a vet check, deworming, spay/neuter and a microchip.
