Hatch Date: 1994 Harry is a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo. This is an endangered species, and as such, he can only be adopted by someone living in the same state as him, which is Pennsylvania. He is approximately 32 years old. As a baby, he was with his original guardian for 5 years and then in his current home for approximately the last 30 years. He was well-loved and is used to attention from his family. Harry’s guardian recently passed away and the family is looking for a loving home for him. Harry is adventurous and has a lot of energy, which he exhibits by running around the inside and outside of his cage. He loves to climb! At times he will hang upside down and swing back and forth or dance up and down. He loves to vocalize and will scream when he wants attention or gets startled. He can be extremely loud, but isn’t a habitual screamer. Typical cockatoo. Harry has a pretty decent vocabulary that he loves to share while he raises his crest. Some of the things he says are “Hello”, “Scratch the pretty bird”, and “I love you Harry”. He also can whistle and gives kisses. He loves attention which he often gets by talking and showing his crest. Harry also enjoys being pet. Although Harry is unable to fly because he has a hole in one of his wings from when he was a baby, he loves to show off his wings. Harry loves being out of the cage but is a typical cockatoo and must be supervised because he loves to chew. He loves to shred wood and toys. Harry did not have the healthiest diet. His favorite foods are eggs, pancakes, cheese and macaroni and cheese. His current caregivers are working on transitioning him to a healthier diet of pellets, fruits, and vegetables. Harry does enjoy holding food in his hand and eating it. Harry has not been exposed to other birds in at least the last 20-25 years, and he does not have experience with other pets. As is true with many birds, he can be aggressive and lunge to bite when not happy. He will only be adopted to a home with large bird experience and understanding of cockatoos and their typical behaviors. He would thrive in an environment that can give him the love and attention he seeks and deserves. Harry has been disease tested for PBFD and Chlamydia. Harry is participating in our Help with Rehoming program and is still living in his home in Yarley, PA. He will only be adopted to a forever home in Pennsylvania. Three visits are required to adopt Harryy. For the Love of Birds is a group of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA. We do not have a central location.
