About

Millie — A Soft Soul Learning That Home Can Be Safe Millie came to the shelter after being surrendered due to unforeseen circumstances. She arrived very shut down, fearful, and unsure of the world around her—overwhelmed by even simple everyday sights and sounds. As a sensitive cattle dog-type, she needed time, space, and patience to begin decompressing and learning that she was finally safe. Since entering foster care, Millie has truly started to blossom. The shy, unsure girl is still there—but she is now layered with a growing affectionate, playful, and deeply loving side that is beginning to shine through. In her foster home, Millie has discovered the joy of comfort and connection. She loves attention and will happily curl up next to anyone willing to share the couch. She enjoys lying on the deck soaking up the sun and taking in the world at her own pace. At night, she is a dedicated snuggler—once she's settled in bed, she stays put until morning, soaking up closeness and security. Millie has done very well with the 8-year-old child in the home and has shown that once she trusts her environment, she can be gentle, affectionate, and deeply bonded with her people. She is also house-trained and has been doing well being left alone for a couple of hours without needing a crate, though she does not tolerate kenneling well. She enjoys her daily walks and benefits from activity to help her release energy. Like many cattle dog mixes, she can become focused on movement—she loves chasing squirrels—so an adopter who can confidently guide her on leash is important. She appears to prefer male dogs over females and enjoys canine company once she has had time to warm up, though introductions should always be slow and thoughtful. Millie is: House-trained Affectionate and highly cuddly with her people Good with respectful children (has lived successfully with an 8-year-old) Crate-averse (does better left loose for short periods) Dog-selective (may prefer males; slow introductions required) Active and enjoys daily walks and enrichment Millie is still a sensitive dog at heart, but she is no longer shut down. She is learning how to trust, how to relax, and how to love her people back. With patience, structure, and a home that understands both her softness and her energy, Millie is ready to fully unfold into the devoted companion she was always meant to be.
