This handsome guy came to the shelter when his owner could no longer care for him. He's a little nervous when meeting new people, but he's sweet and warms up! Proper, slow introductions to other dogs are needed, he has been selective and a bit reactive when encountering some dogs (but not all). At times, he has also been too much for small children (he's large and full of energy), so may do best in a home with no small children or smaller pets. Insights from his foster: `He is very sweet and very friendly so he jumps up and gives lots of kisses. He listens really well and is easy to push off is the kisses get to be too much. He loves turkey and whipped cream!! Is a great walker, doesn't react to people, birds, squirrels, or dogs. He pulls when he's determined to investigate a bush! He is so sweet and energetic!` `We took Gunther out for a short time on Saturday. Gunther is sweet and loves praise. He loved walking on Bolin Creek. He let bikes pass without notice and was interested in some of the people we passed. Gunther was really stirred up when we picked him up, bouncing all around the car, but on the way home, with some energy drained, he stayed put in the back and seemed satisfied. He really enjoyed sniffing and exploring. He liked walking in the creek. Gunther is a beautiful dog with a great smile. He walked great for an hour straight, even on a hot day.` `Gunther is a really nice dog, completely different when not in his kennel at OCAS. He's got a lot of friendly energy. He knows the sit command and though he didn't know some others that I tried, he seems like a very trainable dog - wants to work, motivated by treats, eager to please and earn praise. We went on a walk in the woods and he enjoyed wading in the creek. He walks well on a leash, pulls when he sees squirrels but mostly just liked exploring nature in a low-key way. We also hung out in my house and in my backyard. Gunther also allows handling without issue - he let me brush him and also clean his feet with a damp towel after he came inside. He takes treats gently. All in all Gunther seems like a great dog.`
