Lady is a loving, loyal little character with a touch of sass and a side-eye game that deserves its own fan club. She forms deep bonds with her people and takes her job of loving them very seriously. In her foster home, she has become especially attached to the teenage daughter, following her lead, seeking her out for comfort, and making it clear that she is Lady's favorite person. Once Lady trusts you, she is incredibly affectionate and enjoys cuddles, pets, and simply being near her people. Younger children can make her nervous due to their unpredictable movements and how loud they can get, she usually hides and will stay away from them. Lady is fully potty trained and knows exactly what "outside" means. Mention the word and she's ready to go. She has excellent house manners and can be trusted to roam freely around the home while her foster works. Most days, you'll find her rotating between cozy nap spots, especially her favorite locations in the office or bedroom. When she's feeling playful, Lady enjoys chewing on her favorite ball, rolling around on the carpet, and playing games. Her current favorite activity is hide-and-seek with her foster's daughter, a game Lady proudly considers herself undefeated in. Lady is still a sensitive dog who can be nervous in new situations. New people are met with caution, and she tends to retreat to a comfortable spot while she evaluates the situation. Her curiosity almost always wins, though, and before long she's peeking around corners, venturing closer, and accepting pets, especially if someone she trusts is nearby. She can be particularly unsure around men and has recently started barking or growling when her foster husband or son approach unexpectedly. With gentle correction and reassurance, she quickly settles and allows them to interact with her, including taking her outside and spending time with her. Because of this, Lady will do best with patient adopters who understand that trust is something she builds gradually. Outside, Lady has very strong opinions about squirrels and rabbits, and those opinions are not positive. Small wildlife is the quickest way to see her confident side emerge. Lady already knows "sit" perfectly, is highly food motivated, and continues to gain confidence every day. While she's still learning that the world is a safe place, she has come a long way from the timid dog she once was. One thing that has helped her tremendously is the presence of another confident dog. Lady takes comfort in following the lead of canine companions and would do best in a home with a friendly resident dog who can continue showing her the ropes and helping her navigate new situations. Lady isn't looking for a fast-paced household or a family expecting an instant social butterfly. She's looking for patient people, a confident dog friend, and a home that will allow her to continue blossoming at her own pace. In return, she'll reward that patience with unwavering loyalty, quiet companionship, plenty of cuddles, and the occasional hilarious side-eye. Lady was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. She was at risk of euthanasia with her puppies due to overcrowding, but was able to be rescued in time. Meet and greets are by appointment only. An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time. When we do, it will be updated here. This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above. Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance. We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.
