Han Solo is a 9-year-old English Setter who is ready to find a quiet forever home where he can be the center of attention. This handsome fellow has a storied history, having been professionally trained as a bird hunter in his youth. He was lost for three months as a youngster in a remote area ~ this boy is a true survivor! Though he spent many years with his original family, he was surrendered due to a move and is now looking for a stable environment to spend his senior years. Han is a "Velcro" dog who thrives on human companionship. He tends to prefer the company of men and can be a bit more reserved or cautious around women. Because he is most relaxed when he doesn't have to compete for attention or resources, he would likely be happiest as an only dog. While Han is a mature gentleman, he still possesses a high prey drive and a love for the outdoors. He enjoys regular walks two to three times a day. He is a strong puller on the leash and requires a strong and steady person. Because his recall is not reliable, he needs a home with a large, securely fenced yard—ideally at least four feet high—where he can safely explore. He is not a candidate for off-leash activities or self-exercising without supervision. He is perfectly content to lounge on the furniture with his people once his outdoor curiosity is satisfied. Han is fully house-trained and crate-trained. Typical of our breed, he does experience some minor separation anxiety when his people leave, often whining for a short period before settling down. He is a treat-motivated learner who knows basic commands like "sit". Like many field ES, Han can be a bit stubborn and would appreciate a patient adopter who understands the Setter “selective hearing” type of personality. While he grew up in a home with children, his foster recommends a home with children of at least elementary age. This sweet, independent, and Velcro Setter has a lot of love to give and is simply waiting for the right person to welcome him home.
