Zane is a 4-year-old Black and Tan Chihuahua mix weighing 13 pounds, and he's looking for a family that understands that not every dog wears his heart on his sleeve. Zane came to Canine Castaways after being surrendered alongside his friend Kirby when their owner felt they no longer had time for them. While Kirby greets the world like a long-lost friend, Zane takes a different approach. Zane prefers to watch first and decide later. New people, new dogs, and new situations can make him a little nervous. He isn't the type to rush into a friendship. Instead, he likes to take his time, assess the situation, and make sure everything feels safe before letting his guard down. But once Zane decides you're a friend, you'll start to see his playful side emerge. The cautious observer becomes a fun-loving companion who enjoys playtime and spending time with the people he trusts. Because Zane is still settling into rescue and has not yet had the opportunity to move into a foster home, were continuing to learn more about his personality every day. What we do know is that he's healthy, handsome, and deserves a family willing to give him the patience and understanding he needs to build confidence. Some dogs make an impression the moment you meet them. Others take a little longer to tell their story. Zane is one of those dogs, and we have a feeling he's worth getting to know.
