About

Star and her siblings were born on April 11 and began life with incredible odds stacked against them. A concerned person called for help after the kittens were discovered during a cleanup of an industrial property. At just 4 ounces, Star needed one of our dedicated bottle feeders step in to give her a chance at life. Today, Star is a happy, playful, affectionate kitten who doesn't let anything slow her down. This beautiful girl has a sleek black coat that shines in the light and a personality that is impossible not to love. She seeks out attention, happily curls up in laps for naps, and will even perch on your shoulder or wrap herself around your neck like a furry scarf. Her purr motor is always running, and she loves being close to her people. Like her brother Astro, Star's favorite toy is a furry ball. She carries it proudly through the house, bats it around like a soccer player, and then picks it up to carry it some more. Watching her play, you'd never guess she has any health challenges at all. When Star went in for her spay surgery, the veterinarian detected a significant heart murmur. A cardiology evaluation the following day revealed that she has a ventricular septal defect (VSD)—a hole in her heart that allows blood to mix improperly between chambers. Her defect is on the larger side and could potentially lead to breathing difficulties or congestive heart failure in the future. The encouraging news is that Star is still very young. Her cardiologist recommends a follow-up heart scan in 8–12 months, as there is a possibility that the defect could become smaller and less significant as she grows. In rare cases, VSDs can even close on their own, resulting in an excellent prognosis. At this time, Star is active, playful, affectionate, and enjoying life to the fullest. She deserves a family willing to love her for however many years she has and to provide the veterinary monitoring she may need as she grows. Star's greatest joy in life is her brother, Astro. The two are inseparable—playing together, carrying toys together, and sleeping cuddled up side by side. They provide comfort, confidence, and companionship to one another, so they will be adopted as a bonded pair. If you've ever considered opening your heart to a special-needs pet, Star and Astro are ready to show you just how much love two little survivors can bring into your life.
