Online Adoption Application › Meet Grasshopper (Aka Gus) This lovable, eager-to-please mixed breed (maybe a blend of yellow lab and pit [a Pitador?] or maybe he has a sprinkle of boxer thrown in for good measure [a Boxadorbull?!]) is proof that second chances matter. Gus was saved at the eleventh hour from being euthanized due to lack of space at the shelter (apparently being this handsome isn’t enough to reserve real estate), and he’s been making the absolute most of his fresh start ever since-he also seems to enjoy being a bit of a model and doesn’t mind striking a pose for the camera. Gus picked up crate training in just two days (high-value treats really do work!) and now goes in like a pro. He’s had zero potty accidents, walks comfortably on a leash, and already sits like he’s auditioning for Good Dog of the Year . Gus is the perfect mix of playful and relaxed-he loves a good game of fetch just as much as he enjoys lounging nearby. He’s also an excellent backseat passenger and is happiest with the wind in his face on a car ride. At 49 lbs, he’s not too big—but don’t tell him that, because he’s fully convinced he’s a lap dog. He absolutely adores people, is very loving, and bonds quickly with everyone he meets. We’ve had him for a week and he’s shown no interest in digging under the fence. We also have a bit of a budding bird and butterfly sanctuary in the backyard, and he’s right at home with both—no chasing, just happily chilling. He’s scheduled to be neutered next week and has been doing well as we introduce him to new environments and experiences, such as waiting patiently in the back seat while his Starbucks pup cup was being prepared at the drive-through. He’s made it pretty clear that he intends to be someone’s shadow (and possibly lap ornament) from here on out. At 5 years old, he's old enough to have excellent manners, but young enough to still fully commit to enthusiastic puppy-level zoomies. He happily plays like a puppy, but carries himself like a well-mannered gentleman who would politely hold the door open for you. Gus did have a collar on when we picked him up, so he was clearly someone’s baby at some point. Based on how comfortable he is with people, his perfect potty manners, and the fact that he already knows commands like “sit,” it’s clear he’s had some training and a home before-he didn’t just wake up one day and decide to be this well-mannered. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who will stick by your side, Gus might just be your guy ❤️ Gus's foster is happy to help offset part of the adoption fee to make the process a little easier. The adoption fee is $400, which covers vetting, microchip and the spay/neuter surgery performed by a rescue-affiliated vet. All dogs receive a wellness visit and are up to date on shots appropriate for age. Breed and size is Pawfect Match Rescue's best guess and not guaranteed.
