About

This dog is on our `Call to Action` list because her handlers are limited. The need for skilled handling stems from an incident earlier this month where she bit a volunteer on the back of the leg when walking her back to her kennel. There was no injury inflicted, and the behavior is believed to have been a redirected response - a stress-driven reaction commonly seen in high-arousal shelter environments, rather than an intentional attempt to harm. We have taken steps to reduce the likelihood of this happening again, including modifying handling protocols and minimizing exposure to known stressors. However, the shelter environment may continue to strain for her, and remaining here increases the risk of repeated incidents. For the safety of the dog, volunteers, and staff--and to give her the best chance to decompress and succeeed--we urgently need an adoptive, foster or rescue placement. Recently Ridgegina spent 3 weeks in a foster home, and her foster reports that she is not reactive on leash, loved getting attention and pets from kids, men and women while visiting a pet store, and even lay down on her side and a boy around 10 years was petting her. She was even around some kittens and didn't seem to excited or bothered by them. Ridgegina is potty trained, not destructive in the home, and just loves being with her people. Her foster says she does not appear to interested in toys but she likes to chew on yak milk sticks and peanut butter filled bones. They say she wants to check on them constantly to make sure you are where she last saw you, and is starting to enjoy her time on the patio sun bathing. Adopters come in any day of the week! !e're open 1pm-5:30pm daily! Fosters email vcar.foster@venturacounty.gov Rescues email vcar.rescue@venturacoutny.gov
