Meet Olive Oyl. Please. Stop and read about Olive Oyl. She has spent most of her life in the shadows. She sees the world as too loud, too big, and too unkind for her gentle soul. Don't be fooled by her - when she learns she can trust you, you will have her dedication forever. When you first meet Olive Oyl, you probably won't see her right away. She tucks herself safely inside her safe place and presses her small body against the back wall, hoping her racing heart doesn’t give her away. If you sit on the floor and speak softly, she won't run. Instead, she will peek out with her massive, green eyes that hold a lifetime of unspoken questions. She wants so desperately to trust, but her past has taught her to be careful. Olive Oyl is not the cat who will jump into your arms on day one. She won't seek your lap, or maybe even your hand or attention for a while, and she won't follow you around - at first. She needs to trust you before she will seek you out. Her love is a slow burn, a series of fragile milestones that will make your eyes well up with happy tears when they finally happen. The first time she extends a smal hesitant paw from her hiding spot to touch your finger. The first time she hears your voice and lets out her tiny, silent meow. And finally, the moment that will break your heart wide open: when she realizes she is safe, closes her eyes, and buries her soft head into the palm of your hand, letting out that reserve of a deep, trembling purr she has held inside for years. She needs a patient, quiet sanctuary without the hustle and bustle of young children or energetic dogs. Olive Oyl doesn't need a mansion; she just needs a single person who understands that a gentle spirit takes time to bloom. If you have the patience to earn her trust, Olive Oyl will give you her whole heart—a treasure all the more beautiful because it was so fiercely guarded. Olive Oyl requires a special diet and is a shy girl that needs an adopter that would give her time to adjust and earn trust in her new home. You won't find Olive Oyl at one our events - it is too much for her. If you’d like to meet Olive Oyl, please fill out a cat adoption application at dreamhouserescue.org. We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter! Our cats are fully vetted and we require indoor-only homes. All other pets in the home must be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on all vaccines. We will not send cats to home where they will be declawed as it is a harmful practice that can cause lifelong physical and behavioral problems. Our cats are all spayed/neutered, vaccinated, combo tested, dewormed, and microchipped.
