About

Percy is a dog who simply refuses to let the past hold him back. His story started as a stray on the streets of Martin, TN, until he literally chose his own path by following foster mom’s oldest daughter home while she was on a run. When the local shelter became overcrowded, Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue stepped in with open arms, and his foster mom drove two hours to pull him to safety. During his initial veterinary intake, we discovered Percy had survived some incredible hardships—including an old fracture that luckily healed on its own, and evidence of being shot at. He was also heartworm positive, but Percy is a fighter! He has officially completed his heartworm treatment with flying colors. Due to his past trauma, he is deathly afraid of gunshots and fireworks. When he hears these loud noises, he will start to tremble and look for comfort. He will also run if he gets scared, so walking him in a secure harness is a absolute must to keep him safe. He will also need a fenced in backyard where he can get his zoomies out. Through it all, Percy has been a perfect gentleman. He has blended flawlessly into his foster home's pack of four other dogs. He is fully housetrained, and crate trained (though his foster mom rarely needs to crate him because his house manners are so good!). He is a smart boy who already knows how to sit, shake, lay down, settle down, and patiently wait until his food bowl is put down. Percy’s Personality & Home Quirks: • Favorite Toys and Snacks : He absolutely loves playing with frisbees and tennis balls! He gets a spoonful of peanut butter nightly in his foster home along the resident house dogs. He loves cheese cubes , and grilled chicken. • The Welcome Committee: He gets excited when you first come home, but he calms down quickly. • Quiet Companion: He is a very quiet boy who only barks if he sees someone outside the window or feels threatened. • Kid-Approved: He is excellent with kids of all ages! His foster mom's 4-year-old neighbors come over to play with him frequently, and he is great with new people. • Bedtime Routine: Percy does not like to sleep away from his humans—he wants to be close to his pack at night. • Animal Status: Great with other dogs. No chickens (he will chase them!). He hasn't been tested with cats yet. Percy will need a patient, gentle family who can offer him the security he deserves.
