Pennington County Humane Society Slingshot came to us as a young, unsocialized kitten who had very little experience with people. Everything about human interaction was new to him, and he needed time to understand that hands, voices, and routines could be safe. He has been with us for quite a while now, taking in the world slowly and thoughtfully, always at his own pace. Despite his shy nature, Slingshot is deeply curious. He watches people closely, studying every movement and sound. And when he feels safe, he'll approach on his own, showing quiet bravery and a growing willingness to trust. He also likes other cats, and their presence helps him feel more secure and confident. Those small momentsstepping a little closer, relaxing his tail, choosing to stay in the openare his way of saying he's trying. Slingshot would thrive in a home that can offer: A dedicated safe space where he can decompress A predictable routine and gentle, consistent interactions A quiet family willing to celebrate slow, steady progress Experience with shy or semi‑feral cats (or a willingness to learn) Another friendly cat to help him feel safe (optional but beneficial) He may never be a lap cat, but he absolutely deserves a home where he can feel secure and live life on his own terms.
