Meet Wakanda Part snuggle bug, part neighborhood watch captain, part toy collector… Wakanda is a one-of-a-kind little guy looking for the right forever home. We think he’s a Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix, around 3½ years old, and currently rocking a very portable 16-ish pounds (though his foster mom is working hard on adding a few extra snacks to that figure ). Wakanda came from the heartbreaking Wauconda hoarding case with many of his siblings, so the world is still a pretty new place to him. Everyday noises? Weird. Visitors? Suspicious. Blankets? ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. His favorite things include: Snuggling under blankets Treats (seriously… this boy will do anything for snacks) Toys and bones Walks and backyard exploring Being close to “his person” Wakanda is crate trained and potty trained with reminders, and he’s been working with his foster family to build confidence and work through his barking and protective instincts. He loves hard, but he loves selectively — and once you’re his person, he takes the job of protecting you very seriously. Think tiny bodyguard energy. Because of that, Wakanda needs: A quieter home with a securely fenced yard ‍‍ Older kids or adults only A family committed to continued training and consistency ‍ Someone patient who understands trust takes time Apartment/shared-wall living probably isn’t his thing — he has opinions and isn’t afraid to share them He tends to warm up faster to women and is still learning to trust men, but underneath the cautious exterior is a goofy, loyal little dog who is finally discovering that life can be safe, cozy, and full of love. Wakanda may not be the dog for everyone — but for the right person, he’s going to be an incredibly devoted companion. And honestly? Every kingdom deserves a loyal protector. Due to our participation in the Vernon Hills 4th of July Parade , there will be no adoption event on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
